Hannah Arendt: Facing Tyranny

2025 | Documentary, History, Biography | USA | 84 min

Watch it FREE with PBS Passport

Available on Amazon Prime for $2.99

This film is a new (2025) documentary made 50 years after her death. Born in 1906, Arendt was a Jewish German and American historian and philosopher. She was one of the most influential political theorists of the twentieth century.

Filled with archival footage, the film—made for the PBS American Masters series—tells the story of Arendt’s life. It follows the historical events that shaped her thinking, from the First World War and the Holocaust to the founding of Israel, the Adolf Eichmann trial, the civil rights movement, and the Vietnam War. In the film, people who knew her paint a picture of a woman who was as fearless as she was full of life. The film shows the foresight of a political thinker whose work resonates into the present day—astonishingly and frighteningly so.

Watch the film online at your convenience and, if you can, please join us on Zoom Tuesday, February 17 to discuss it. Sign up HERE  to receive the Zoom link for the discussion.
