Jewish Film Nights at the J
Celebrating 25 years of Jewish films at the JCC
All films are FREE | Public welcome
What is Jewish Film Nights at the J?
Jewish Film Nights at the J brings you 8 thought-provoking, entertaining, and educational films. There will be one film shown on one night each month. Each film will have a brief introduction and opportunity to stay after for discussion. Themes are varied: Drama, History, Comedy, Documentary, Contemporary. Our committee scours the film universe to bring you the best available. All have a Jewish connection. We invite everyone in the community to enjoy these free nights at the JCC.
"Shoelaces" tells the story of a complicated relationship between an aging father and his special-needs son, whom he abandoned while he was still a young boy. Reuben's (60) kidney's are failing and his son Gadi (35), wants to donate one of his own kidney's to help save his father's life. However, the transplant committee objects to the procedure claiming that Rueben, acting as Gadi's sole legal guardian, does not have the right to authorize such an invasive procedure.
LIVE AND BECOME
The magnificent, epic story of an Ethiopian boy who is airlifted from a Sudanese refugee camp to Israel in 1984 during Operation Moses. Shlomo is plagued by two big secrets: He is neither a Jew nor an orphan, just an African boy who survived and wants, somehow, to fulfill his Ethiopian mother’s parting request that he “go, live, and become.”
ASK DR. RUTH
We invite you to join us for a screening of "Ask Dr. Ruth" on Sunday, April 19 and a special event featuring Dr. Ruth Westheimer on Thursday, April 23. Tickets can be purchased at lvjcc.org/drruth or by calling the JCC at 610.435.3571.
Ask Dr. Ruth chronicles the incredible life of Dr. Ruth Westheimer, a Holocaust survivor who became America's most famous sex therapist. With her diminutive frame, thick German accent, and uninhibited approach to sex therapy and education, Dr. Ruth transformed the conversation around sexuality. As she approaches her 90th birthday and shows no signs of slowing down, Dr. Ruth revisits her painful past and unlikely path to a career at the forefront of the sexual revolution.
Save the date for all of our upcoming Jewish Film Nights at the J. Stay tuned for film details.
