July  27, 8:00am

In our continued effort to safely serve our members, we are excited to announce that on Monday, August 10, the JCC will be entering the next phase of our reopening and will be opening the doors to our NEWLY relocated Fitness Center! We have heard you and we are working hard to relocate our Fitness Center from the lower level to the main floor in the spacious, Auxiliary Auditorium, which provides about double the square footage of the current Fitness Center. Equipment with proper distancing will be waiting for you, and Andrew Yasenchak, our new Sports and Fitness Director, is eager to work with you to get your fitness routine back on track. Additional procedures and protocols to ensure proper sanitization will be shared prior to reopening.

Access to our Fitness Center will be limited to 12 members at a time and reservations are required through the JCC’s online reservation system. This is the same system used to reserve a lap lane for the pool and a squash court.

We are also pleased to let you know that our hours will be expanded for fitness, aquatics and squash beginning August 10. We hope to continue to expand hours in future phases.

As a reminder, if you placed your membership on hold during the building closure, it will become active and billing will resume on August 1. June 28, 8:00am

With Lehigh County "going green", we are actively working on reopening our sports, fitness and aquatics departments quickly and safely. This reopening will utilize a phased approach to ensure the safety of our members and staff, and also those participating in our ongoing child care programs this summer. Our current plan, which is subject to change, is:

Phase 1: Partial Reopening of Pool & Group Exercise (July 6) - SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS
Phase 2: Partial Reopening of Indoor Fitness (mid-July)
Phase 3: Full Reopening of Fitness and Recreation (early August)

Our staff is currently working through this plan to ensure the proper procedures and changes to our programs and facilities to reduce the risk of exposure to Covid-19. Prior to each phase, we will e-mail our members with details of what programs and services are available, and what procedures will be in place. Some likely changes are:
  • Modified hours, especially during the summer while camp is in session
  • Advance reservations for specific time blocks (online or by phone)
  • Increased sanitization and use of social distancing
Pool Policies & Procedures

Initially, the pool will be available for use by our camp program during the day, and for lap swimming on evenings and weekends. Lap swimming must be reserved in advance (click here to reserve online) up to 2 weeks in advance, or call us at 610-435-3571). The following additions have been made to the JCC's Covid-19 Health & Safety Plan, which is available on our website:

The swimming pool will operate with the following modifications to decrease the risk of Covid-19 spread:
  • Initially, the pool will only have open swim during hours when child care programs are not in operation. These hours will be 7-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. We anticipate adding additional hours in August.
  • During open swim times, the pool may be used for lap swimming only. There will be no family swim or group exercise classes.
  • There may be a maximum of one swimmer per lane, and lanes must be reserved in advance. Lanes may be reserved in advance online or via phone in 50-minute sessions, which includes time for changing and departing the pool area. This will provide staff time to clean the facility between sessions.
  • Locker rooms are not available for use. Swimmers must come with their bathing suit on (or under their clothes), and proceed directly to the pool area. After swimming, the Family Changing Room on the pool deck will be available for use to change back into clothes. Changing must be conducted within the 50-minute sessions.
  • Gathering and socializing is not permitted in the pool or on the pool deck. The lifeguard should only be approached and talked to if necessary for safety. Concerns over the adherence to Covid-19 health and safety policies should be directed to the aquatics office or the Welcome Desk.
  • Masks must be worn at all times except when in the pool, including lifeguards and staff. There should not be any unnecessary individuals in the pool area (i.e., only those actively swimming and necessary staff).
Squash Courts

The squash courts will reopen on Monday, July 6 for JCC members. Initially, each court will be restricted to either individual practice or players that reside in the same household. Reservations are required and can be made online or by calling the JCC at 610-435-3571. Please visit our website for more information regarding squash court usage and availability.

Squash Court Hours:

Monday - Thursday: 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Saturday & Sunday: 8:30am - 11:30am

Group Exercise

Next week, we will publish our initial group exercise schedule and our policies and procedures. Group exercise will be conducted outdoors on either the athletic field or the 23rd St. parking lot, both of which have shade tents installed. Participants will be spaced out in marked areas to ensure proper distancing. Shared equipment will not be allowed during a class, and participants must bring their own mats for classes that require them. We will continue to add additional classes in the coming weeks based on interest and instructor availability.

Thank you to our members who have continued membership dues to support the JCC through this time. If your membership is currently on hold and you choose to utilize group exercise or aquatics in the month of July, your membership will be reactivated at that time; otherwise, it will automatically be reactivated on August 1.

June 5, 5:03pm

It is with care and anticipation that we look forward to the first phase of our facility reopening Monday, June 8. As we returned last week to prepare for this, it was hard to believe that it has been almost three months since we have been in our building. For weeks, we have been working to modify our procedures and physical facility to create a safe environment. We also have been working to adapt our programs to ensure that we are still able to deliver the same fantastic services, albeit sometimes in a slightly different format.

For those that will be returning for early childhood or summer camp in the next two weeks, we encourage you to review our COVID-19 Health & Safety Procedures.

Please note the following key points:
1. Everyone must enter through the main 22nd St. doors (unless being dropped off curbside for camp), and participate in our screening process.
2. Everyone over the age of 2 must wear a face mask when in public spaces.
3. Everyone must either scan in with their key fob/key card, or show ID and be signed in.
4. Please observe distancing, avoid congregating, and follow directional signage.

While these procedures decrease the risk of exposure to COVID-19, we recognize that there are still risks associated with coming to the JCC or any other public place. We respect each person's individual decision as to whether or not this is the right time to return. For those who decide it is, we enthusiastically welcome you back. For those who decide it's not, we hope to see you soon when the time is right for you.

If you have any concerns relating to COVID-19, I encourage you to contact me directly. Thank you for your continued support.
