5 BROKEN CAMERAS

2011 | Documentary | Israel West Bank | Subtitles | 94 minutes

Watch it FREE on Vimeo

You can also watch the film FREE through Amazon Prime
with 7-day free trials of Sundance or Kino

The film is a deeply personal first-hand account of life and nonviolent resistance in Bil'in, a West Bank village where Israel was building a security fence. Palestinian Emad Burnat bought his first camera in 2005 to record the birth of his youngest son who coincidentally was born at the same time Israel was constructing a wall that would separate his village from an Israeli settlement. Because the wall was being built on their family farm and not on settlement land, there were repeated demonstrations and conflicts. The home movies became a Palestinian farmer's chronicle of his nonviolent resistance to the actions of the Israeli army. Nominated for a 2013 Oscar, the film was first shown in the U.S. on the 2013 PBS POV series.

Watch at your convenience, then sign up below to join us on Zoom for the discussion, Tuesday 4/28 at 7:30pm.

What is Jewish Film Nights at the J?

Jewish Film Nights at the J brings you thought-provoking, entertaining, and educational films for free. There will be one film shown on one night each month. Each film will have a brief introduction and opportunity to stay after for discussion. Themes are varied: Drama, History, Comedy, Documentary, Contemporary. Our committee scours the film universe to bring you the best available. All have a Jewish connection. We invite everyone in the community to enjoy these free nights at the JCC.
