A Fall Full of Jewish Learning

What a whirlwind it’s been at the Lehigh Valley JCC and it’s only November. This year’s excitement is just getting started. As the Jewish Education Coordinator, I’m happy to report that we officially survived and thoroughly enjoyed the fall holiday marathon. Between carb-loading at our very first Family Shabbat Spaghetti Dinner, blowing the shofar, endless apples and honey, and hanging out for Snacks in the Sukkah, our Lehigh Valley community came together in the best possible ways.

Over in the ECE at the JCC, our days have been filled with hands-on, multi-sensory holiday fun thanks to our Mensch makers program. We also just launched Nosh and Know in partnership with the Jewish Day School, giving interested students a fun opportunity to dive into extra Jewish learning twice a month.

Even though the autumn holiday flurry is wrapping up, the fun and community building are nowhere near over. We’re gearing up for our next Family Shabbat Dinner on November 20 from 5:30-7pm. This event will be a Friendsgiving Potluck, where families are asked to bring a dish (no dairy) to share. Sign up at lvjcc.org/ShabbatDinner. Next month, we have some fantastic Hanukkah programming to round out the calendar year. On Tuesday, December 8 from 5:30-6pm the community is invited to gather in the JCC Lobby for our free Hanukkah Candlelighting. Advance registration is required for this event, sign up at lvjcc.org/CommunityHanukkah.

We are also debuting a new holiday program, LOL: Latkes, Oil & Libations, featuring a Hanukkah night out! Enjoy a festive evening of latke tasting and friendly competition, olive oil tastings, seasonal drinks, and plenty of laughs on Thursday, December 10 from 6-8pm. Make a team, cook a latke and let's party! Get in on the fun at lvjcc.org/LOL.

Thank you all for making these first few months of the year so memorable, and I can’t wait to see you around the JCC!
