The JCC would like to welcome Lauren Alexander as the new Jewish Education Coordinator, a position made possible through a grant from and the shared vision of the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley. Lauren recently moved to the Lehigh Valley from the Philadelphia area with her family and is excited to bring a new life to the Jewish programming within the JCC building and to the community as a whole.
With her previous experience in the Jewish education and early childhood realms, she looks to develop new programs that will bring together the community to teach Jewish programming in a welcoming and accessible way. “This fall, we’ll be bringing more Jewish programming into our Early Childhood Education classrooms here at the JCC, weaving Jewish values, traditions, and holidays into everyday learning,” said Alexander.
She recently led a Hanukkah in July event for the JCC’s summer camp which included teaching children of all backgrounds about the story of Hanukkah, how to play spin the dreidel, and working together to create a blue and gold tie-dye painted mural using dreidels instead of brushes.
This September will highlight two new Jewish events: Family Shabbat Spaghetti Dinner and Snacks in the Sukkah. The former, which will be part of an ongoing monthly family Shabbat series, invites the community to end the week among family and friends on Friday, September 18 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm with a delicious meal at the JCC to help kick off Shabbat and the weekend. In celebration of Sukkot, all are invited to gather in the JCC sukkah from 5:00pm – 6:00pm on Wednesday, September 30 to shake the lulav and eat some healthy snacks.
