Building Hours:Are you looking for a class that combines early foreign language learning and inclusivity? Look no further than our new Intro to American Sign Language enrichment program designed for children ages 3-5. American Sign Language (ASL) is used by Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities across North America and is one of over 300 signed languages in the world. A visual-spatial language, ASL uses body movements instead of sounds to represent words and concepts. ASL has been adopted by a wide variety of users in diverse learning spaces as well, including by students who are nonverbal, live with selective mutism, have delayed speech acquisition, or have a disability that makes speech difficult.
Introducing children to foreign language at an early age can help increase their verbal and nonverbal communication skills, promote inclusion, and help children engage with people from different cultures and abilities. Throughout the six-week session, children will learn the five parameters of ASL (handshape, orientation, movement, location, and non-manual markers) and introductory signs in a fun, flexible environment.
