The JCC of the Lehigh Valley is excited to announce that registration for our Early Childhood Program will open to the public on February 1. Our program has grown this year to include a total of eight classrooms, ranging in age from Infants through Pre-K.
This year we opened our Young Preschool classroom to serve children who did not quite make the cut off for Preschool by age, but who were developmentally ready for a more challenging curriculum. Children in this classroom would have had to repeat either Preschool or Pre-K due to not meeting the cutoff for Kindergarten. Now, with this classroom open, they have the chance to move through our program in a way that serves their developmental needs.
Our teachers have been working hard learning and implementing our new HighScope Curriculum. The scaffolding that this curriculum provides offers insight into the way that children learn and explore their environment. In our Young Toddler classroom, this month the children have been working on independence. The teachers have been encouraging the children to find their own coats for outside time. While this is a small task, it is a big leap in independence for children who have just turned one!
Our Early Childhood Education department is pleased to offer several enrichments for the winter programming session, including Process Art, Intro to Dance, and Spanish Immersion. These classes are typically offered in the afternoon and are open to both early childhood families and the public! We encourage you to look in the program guide to see if there are any classes that interest you!
